I called in to describe my summer project of turning a former office space into my primary headquarters, a major construction challenge. But when Anna asked me about how I planned to use the space, I got shy and simply said "it will be an art studio." I didn't want to get into a nebulous conversation about Live/Work real estate. My project was inspired by the work of the fantastic comic artist Pat Palermo, who has depicted the experience astutely in his humorous graphic novel LIVE WORK.

I'd like to take this opportunity to elaborate on my aspirations for my own space:

"a meeting place. a dinner spot. a sex den. a painting atelier. a soap factory. a portrait salon. a sewing studio. a library. a co-working desk. a printshop. a sanctuary. a green house. a place to listen to the radio. a place to dance. a place to teach. a place to read. a place to build things. a place for conversations. a place for writing. a place to rest comfortably, f**k lavishly, work peacefully. to eat well. a place for contemplation and indulgence, a place for making plans."

Does Anna Sale(?)just steer conversations into mediocrity, or does she also have a hand in choosing irrelevant silly time wasting topics like this one?

OK, here's my summer project for my days off: cleaning, straightening up, putting things away, reorganizing, grocery shopping, doing laundry. And having blood tests and getting doctors to fill out intrusive pointless medical forms for my next federal job.

Fascinating, yes? Should I have called in? I realize that hearing that the host is doing aerobic training is far more interesting. I myself will be going lap swimming tonight.
