The City of Oakland, California, is mourning.

During a party last Friday, a warehouse and artist space called the Ghost Ship caught fire. People were illegally living in the building. The blaze claimed 36 lives, making it one of the country’s most fatal building fires in the last 50 years.

Last night, a vigil of around 1,000 people gathered at Lake Merritt, in the center of Oakland, to celebrate those who died. Sam Harnett (@SamWHarnett) from Here & Now contributor KQED reports.
