Video: Green Space and Art Anchor the New #7 Train Subway Station

The long-awaited #7 extension will bring the subway to the Hudson Yards, a Bloomberg-legacy project designed to spur development of Manhattan's far west side. When it finally opens next year, at the corner of 34th Street and 11th Avenue, it will have a "lush park" at the subway entrance — and one of the subway system's largest mosaics.

According to a new MTA video, the new four-acre park "will offer grassy areas, meandering walking paths, and shady nooks." Once inside the station, passengers will be greeted by two tile mosaics by artist Xenobia Bailey. According to the MTA, the mosaics will be among the largest ever completed in a subway station.

Check out the park and the mosaics being installed. And get out your calendar: the $2.4 billion #7 extension is contractually scheduled to be open on February 24, 2015.
