Vape Expectations: Testing the Allure of E-Cigarettes

“Disruptive technology” is the buzzword in the tech-world.

Think how websites like Expedia put the travel agent out of business, or how Airbnb and Uber are shaking up the hospitality and transportation industries.

But what about the hardest habit of all to break, smoking?

Former smokers who’ve made the switch to e-cigarettes believe these little battery-powered devices could help the world quit tobacco. But we don't know how safe they are, and the companies profiting off the new trend are taking savvy steps to avoid the same regulations that restrict tobacco products.

Much like the interviewee, my mom smoked cigarettes for over 40 years and assumed she would smoke for the rest of her life. When cigarettes became prohibitively expensive she switched to e-cigarettes and had quit altogether soon afterwards.
