Iran is indicating it is willing to curb its nuclear weapons program -- but at the UN General Assembly this week Israel is expected to warn that it considers the proposal a trap. David Sanger, New York Times chief Washington correspondent and author of  Confront and Conceal: Obama's Secret Wars and Surprising Use of American Power (Broadway, 2013), discusses the prospects for better relations between the U.S. and Iran, Syria and other international news.

Laila,
Sure, I've acquired a doctorate and several masters to spend my days "disputing" the production of sick iliterate bigots.

Last comment for Anna. When someone cannot dispute the substance of a statement, one usually tries to impugn the character or motive of the person making the statement.

Shame a caller justified the attacks on shoppers in a Kenyan mall. Calls on Brian to stand with Muslims - it is precisely people like these who harm Muslims rather than any Western actions.
His assertion that Kenyan troops raped and pillaged is total nonsense. They responded to attacks on innocent civilians by Al-Shabab inside Kenya. The transitional Somali government supported the Kenyan military actions. It is Al-Shabab that is raping and pillaging their own Somali neighbors. Get the facts straight.

Yes, Laila, we need your explanation. Sure.
So, are you paid by comment, by line or how?

April above is CORRECT. I have said this before, but it needs repeating. This reminds me of the drum beat before Iraq's invasion (including on the Brian Lehrer Show) and I am very frightened. So far,the only country being threatened (as well as "sanctioned") has been Iran, by Israel and the US governments. Iran has done nothing to either of those countries. Iran has NO nuclear weapons but Israel HAS nuclear weapons. Iran IS a signatory to the Non Proliferation Treaty, Israel is NOT a signatory. Which of these two is more dangerous?

@JamesD -

LOL, don't insult Ed, Edward and Jgarbuzz by thinking that I am them (or they are me).

I think we all post here on this left wing sink hole because, as St. Barry Obama once said, "We are the change that we have been waiting for."

Well, James, I glanced at some of the comments by Martin, Ed, Jgarbuz and I am pretty sure that they are different people and that they are not paid, unlike ... you, possibly, for example.
Are you paid to silence them and to promote some "oily" interests for example?

APRIL from MANHATTAN TYPED IN UPPERCASE...

> WHY DO WE ASSUME IRAN IS IRRATIONAL? ISRAEL HAS 40 TO 100 NUKES. DO IRANIANS IN GOVERNMENT WANT TO DIE? I DON'T THINK SO. SOME OF THEIR NEIGHBORS HAVE NUKES. LOOK AT THEIR OTHER INTERESTS, NOT JUST THROUGH ISRAEL AND AMERICA'S INTERESTS.

April, It's time to drop your APPLE ][ and upgrade to something in the 21st century.

David Sanger is often on this show, he seems to be the go to guy. But, he dose not really understand much about Africa, the Near East and Central Asian. He probably doesn’t speak Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Turkish, or Swahili unlike some of the BBC reporters in the region. Yes, he had spent time in Japan. So I take what he says from the prism of a guy who really doesn’t know much about the subject at hand.
Yes, he dose know Washington speak.

If as the Islamic Republic of Iran says, nuclear weapons are un-Islamic, then why does the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have nuclear weapons????

Am I the only who supposes that "Ed", "Martin" and "jgarbuzz" are all one person -- possibly an authentic case study, but more likely, someone who's paid to seed online comments with the usual nonsense?

All 3 sound like caricatures of right-wing nut jobs -- if a liberal offered these views as satire of Republicans, the humor would be dismissed as crude -- but you never know....

Iran is not irrational. Der Supreme Fuehrer is irrational. Germany was not irrational. Der Fuehrer, Adolf Hitler was irrational. One must not confuse the will of the people with the policies of the regime.
Even in the US, the policies of the government and the desires of the people don't always jive.

Why don't you check what he was saying just before the elections and before his HUGE manipulation.
I know that Americans don't have an hour of history and geography in their lives. So how dare they to open their mouths on this or similar topics.
No, "hug and kiss" New Age education isn't helpful.

No kidding, they're ready to talk. After years of sanctions that has brought down the Iranian economy, they are now ready to talk. But are they ready to dismantle their thousands of centrifuges? That is the question. Talk is cheap. Nothing comes from talking; only from doing.

Netanyahu Is Said to View Iran Deal as a Possible Trap - New York Times

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, stepping up his effort to blunt a diplomatic offensive by Iran, plans to warn the United Nations next week that a nuclear deal with the Iranian government could be a trap similar to one set by North Korea eight years ago, according to an Israeli official involved in drafting the speech.”

Israel: Rouhani "Will Smile All the Way to the Bomb" Washington Post

“Yuval Steinitz, Israel’s minister for intelligence and strategic affairs, confirmed that Israel is alarmed by what he derided as Rouhani’s “smiley campaign.” He said that despite some friendly gestures, Iran has shown no signs of slowing its efforts to enrich uranium, a key step in the production of nuclear weapons.”

I still see the effects of Pope Francis' worldwide prayer for peace two weeks ago in this discussion between Iran and the U.S.

(PS...Ed/L -- Are you referring to Iran's anti-abortion policy? Trying to contextualize your comment...tnx)

Most curious to hear Syria & Iran's opinion of Israel assisting the Kenyans in the mall attack.

We've had 40 years to stop abortion, but instead we're pushing it forward more and more. Not just the culture of death, but we're entering the culture of murder. Will God stand for this endlessly? I doubt it. If he has to bring down the West to stop abortion, he will.
