At an UES Bagel Shop, Undocumented Workers Fight for Fair Wages

The Leonard Lopate Show | Apr 1, 2015

Directors Robin Blotnick and Rachel Lears discuss their documentary, “The Hand That Feeds.” At a popular bakery café in the Upper East Side, undocumented immigrant workers face sub-legal wages, dangerous machinery, and abusive managers. Mahoma López has never been interested in politics, but in January 2012 he convinces a small group of his co-workers to fight back. Risking deportation and the loss of their livelihood, the workers took the unusual step of forming their own independent union. The film opens April 3 at Cinema Village.
