Two Cartoonists Talk About Something Pleasant
The New Yorker Radio Hour | Mar 18, 2016
Roz Chast’s neurotic, frazzled cartoon characters have been appearing in The New Yorker since 1978, when Chast was twenty-four years old. Her 2014 graphic memoir, “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?,” was a National Book Award finalist. Liana Finck grew up reading Chast’s work avidly and sent her fan letters; she’s now a cartoonist for The New Yorker herself, and the author of the graphic novel “A Bintel Brief.” The two women talk about working in a largely male field, dealing with anxieties, and their shared love of birds.
