New York Times Dining section columnist Melissa Clark and the Leonard Lopate Show are challenging you to write an entire recipe in less than 140 characters! Tweet your recipe between now and Thursday, October 17 at 10 am.

Hot Chocolate

Milk, TJoes sipping chocolate, pot, spoon, stovetop, heat, stir, yum-yum.

Scrub/boil beets in H2O to cover til tender; peel, dice. Salt, sugar, soursalt broth to taste. Steam greens, chop, add. Chill. Top w/chives.

(Of course this is much longer than my little Yiddish grandmother's recipe for borscht, which she finally gave me after years of pleading. Hers looked like this:

beets
water
salt
sugar
sour salt

Luckily, I had watched.
