President Donald Trump's nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs has left some in the military community scratching their heads. If Dr. David Shulkin - President Donald Trump's nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs - is confirmed today, he will be the first hold-over from the Obama administration. A physician by trade, he's held the position of Under-Secretary of Health for the VA since 2015. He will also be the first non-veteran to lead the VA.

Is Shulkin prepared to deal with the complex management challenges ahead for a department that’s been troubled by recent scandals? Bobbie O'Brien, a reporter covering veterans and military affairs for WUSF discusses Trump’s pick, and what the Department of Veteran Affairs is looking for in a new leader.
