Top Tips for Starting, and Keeping, a Book Club
The Leonard Lopate Show | Oct 12, 2017
We had an incredible discussion with Glory Edim and Lynn Lobash about how to start your own book club, and keep it thriving. We also heard from many of you, our listeners and die-hard book-clubbers. Here are their top 12 tips:
- Read banned books
- Invite authors to come and speak
- Make dinner
- Have rules
- Whoever selects the book leads the discussion
- Pick themes
- Make your book club a community, one that creates solidarity
- Have a clear selection process
- Stay open-minded
- Make your book club a safe space
- Maintain a social media presence
- Don't be afraid to read something you don't want to read -- it can lead to some great conversation!
With these tips in mind, we want to create our own online book club.
A space to talk about the books you are reading, a place to look for recommendations, and discuss pretty much anything book-related, including what we’re reading with the Leonard Lopate Book Club. We need your help. What interests you? How should it work?
Please take this quick survey and help us create a place where you can discuss all things books.
