The '68 Olympic games changed everything for John Carlos. Standing on the podium after winning the bronze in the 200 meters, he and fellow runner Tommie Smith raised their fists in the black power saluteĀ in a moment that became known as one of the most controversial and iconicĀ in Olympics history.
