Totally, absolutely THRILLED to have been at the Christmas show taping at Birdland after MANY years of listening on the radio.

Totally, absolutely THRILLED to have The Jonathan Channel available online, 24/7. It was a no-brainer to sign up and support WNYC with a monthly pledge.

Totally, absolutely THRILLED than they have included Radio Deluxe in the programming. I've listened to Radio Deluxe, online for years as well.

Technical issues, VERY minor in the grand scheme of things and given that this is the first time that they've been at Birdland, not so very unusual.

"The Christmas show is scheduled to repeat on Christmas day."

At what time? And how did you learn this?

"Tuesday 12/24/2013 at 8 PM ET (5 PM PT) there will be one more streaming of The Christmas Show"

I am wondering how you learned of the 8pm re-broadcast of the XMAS Show. I do not see it on the site, and Listener Services told me that the noon airing was the only one.

To Mike R,

If you Livestream video, it's no longer radio.

Radio is about listening. it's the voices. That's where the magic is.

Each Christmas show is better than the one before, and this one was no exception. This is one of the highlights of our year.

The Christmas show is scheduled to repeat on Christmas day. Yes there were technical problems -- unfortunate but did not kill the buzz. They got it worked out. Remote live shows are dicey especially "one-off's". After about the first half hour or so and the cut to last year's and back, everything was hunky dory. Some folks insist on looking a gift horse in the mouth. Cheers to all!

Jonathan --

I attempted to listen to the Christmas Show from here on Maui, yesterday early morning.

Sorry to say -- far to many technical gaffs so early in the live-stream broadcast. I gave up
and never returned. With so much talent, and so much missed opportunity -- can you please
get one of the WNYC producers to truly produce this special broadcast. It's a mess!

If nothing else, there must be an audio & technical director -- and several producers to
set up guests. In effect, your NYC literati, and musical artists talk at one another --
making very little sense to anyone west of Columbus Circle.

Jonathan Channel -- a great idea. How about live-streaming both audio and video of the
Birdland location next year for your 45th? Perhaps, with some expertise can do it
once the right way -- something like "Live at Lincoln Center," but for Jonathan Channel website.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

In yesterday's show, around 1:30pm, Michael Feinstein came on and Jonathan asked him to name his 3 favorite songs (at least lately...). Does anyone recall the 3 Michael named? Thanks.

After listening to the Christmas show for so many years, I was lucky enough to be in attendance at Birdland for this years show. It is now five hours later and I haven't come down yet. Four hours of wall to wall talent. And all of them my favorites. Jonathan kept requesting songs that I would have chosen myself. I guess he knows his audience. It doesn't get any better then that.
There was a small technical glitch but so what. It was still four hours of heaven. Thank you! Thank you!

The show that is airing on The Jonathan Channel on Sunday evening 12/22/13 from 8 PM-Midnight ET (5 PM-9 PM PT) is a repeat broadcast of the WNYC/Jonathan Channel show that originally aired on Sunday 12/15/13 from Noon-4 PM ET (9 AM-1 PM PT).

Show/playlist info here:

I did not get to hear The Christmas Show live online (I'm out of the NYC area, so I couldn't hear it over the air on radio).
Apparently, according to some of the posts above, there were technical problems with the Sunday 12/22/13 broadcast, thus possibly making it "unworthy" of rebroadcast in the usual Sunday evening slot.

The 12/22/13 Christmas Show is currently scheduled to be rebroadcast on The Jonathan Channel in the Noon-4 PM ET (9 AM-1 PM PT) time slot on Tuesday 12/24/13. Hopefully (possibly?) the show will be "cleaned up" for rebroadcast at that time.

Jonathan was off on Saturday 12/21/13; a show from Saturday, December 15, 2012 was rebroadcast in its place. This possibly explains his "hoarse voice" mentioned in a previous comment.

Jonathan is scheduled to be live in studio from Noon-3 PM ET (( AM-Noon PT) on Christmas Day, Wednesday 12/25/13.

Anyone looking for archived shows (some of which have playlists available), please go to this page:

and scroll down to the calendar on the right border of the page from which you can click on the date(s) of the desired show(s).

As for song tag IDs on the streaming player or on your media device/player:
as far as I can see so far, while the "live shows" are in progress, the only ID that shows is "The Jonathan Channel" or "Jonathan Channel Live" or "Jonathan Schwartz Live". It's true that most streams show titles/artists as they're currently playing, but maybe because Jonathan does the live shows "on the fly" and the recordings used are usually from CD or vinyl rather than a computerized music storage system this prevents currently playing song IDs from being shown.

Up until a few days ago, as mentioned previously in the comments, the playlist would be available in the archives section under the particular show's description usually within 2-3 days. We'll see if this continues to be updated (some of the recent shows were repeats of earlier broadcasts, so new playlists may not have been necessary).

I have been streaming Jonathan Schwartz's channel - or channeling his stream - in Paris since I first heard it a couple of months ago - totally cool. Thanks and happy holidays!

This show is wonderful so far, even with the technical glitches, but only one song from Christine Ebersole and no conversation? That's a loss, in my opinion.

Bill Reed from Los Angeles

As much as I feel Jonathan Schwartz should receive a George Foster Peabody award, whomever is responsilde for the streaming playlist should be, ummmm. . . . No way of knowing what one is listening to a good part of the time. sighhhhhh.... And so I can't/won't listen much longer.

Dec. 22 2013 01:12 PM

I'm confused. Everyone here is commenting about this show as if it is the live show that is advertised above. Why does the announcer explain that this is a rebroadcast of last year's show? Yet Jonathan is talking about Betrayal which is a recent Broadway production. This is not making sense!

Dec. 22 2013 01:12 PM

How painful today's Sunday Christmas show is to listen to because of all the technical problems! After 44 years can't the sound crew get it right ?
What a disappointment.

Nearly impossible to find the program as "live streaming" on my iPad. Finally went to regular radio. The website should be clearer and have the program be MUCH easier to find and turn on.

Was pleased to be in NY for the inaugural Jonathan Show. Wow!
Now I have a question for Jonathan: Late in November you played a wonderful guitar Christmas piece. What was it?
I don't usually buy Christmas music, but this way beyond anything I've heard. Did you mention Tierney Sutton afterwards? HELP! Please.
