Subways and Railways

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Weinberg commentary on New York Traffic Commissioner Henry Barnes and the comfort, safety, and amenities on the railroad system. Weinberg calls Penn Station an "architectural disaster." He advocates for more practical telephone booths, a better system for catching a cab, and making the subway stations better lighted with more seating. He talks a lot about all the little things that could be done to make the subways and commuting trains more comfortable, more safe, and more attractive. (note: the original tape was damaged and there is some resulting skipping/distortion in the audio)
