Together since age nine, Noel and Herta are shown in a flatteringly touched-up photograph taken in the late sixties in Budapest.

Kati Marton, author and a former correspondent for ABC and NPR, discusses her latest book, True Believer: Stalin's Last American Spy, which tells the story of Noel Field, an American who spied for Stalin during the 1930s and '40s. Field was eventually kidnapped and tortured by the KGB and forced to testify against his own Communist comrades.

Event: Kati Marton will be speaking at the New York Public Library (main branch/ Stephen A. Schwarzman Building) on Tuesday, September 13th at 6 p.m. She’ll be in conversation with Larissa Macfarquhar of The New Yorker. For more information, click here
