The Sound Castle of New Jersey

Marko Costanzo is a former magician who now works as a sound-effects artist. His workspace in New Jersey is like a castle full of things that make noise: a lizard toy that squeaks just so, a set of gloves adorned with duck feet that he used in the movie “Ice Age,” and a bat responsible for the sounds in a famously bloody scene in “Goodfellas.” The New Yorker’s editorial director Henry Finder recently visited Constanzo to see how the magic happens.
