The ruby slippers from the iconic 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” are falling apart and the sequins are fading. So the Smithsonian has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $300,000 to conserve the 80-year-old slippers and build a state-of-the-art showcase to protect them.

Dawn Wallace is the objects conservator at the National Museum of American History. She tells Here & Now‘s Lisa Mullins about what it will take to conserve the beloved ruby slippers.
