NEW YORK, Aug. 15, 2016 -- People wait for the reopening of the security check at the JFK International Airport in New York, the United States, on Aug. 15, 2016.

David Wallace-Wells, features editor for New York Magazine, recounts his frightening experience at Kennedy Airport last week, when reports of an active shooter -  though there wasn't one - caused total chaos for travelers.

"Any likely terrorist targets should be controlled by NYPD, who have great training and large budget, but also have experience dealing with large crowds." said Wallace-Wells.
