Sam Friend & His New Orleans Swamp Donkeys

Airs

Thursday, July 31, 2014

Banjoist and bandleader Sam Friend and his band the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys play jazz, blues, and originals, drawing on the sound of grassroots jazz combos from a century ago. The Wall Street Journal has called the group “one of the zingiest of the new hot jazz bands out of the Crescent City.”  This week Friend shares his love of traditional “jass” with a rendition of “Sweet Lorraine” on six-string banjo.
