In the category of child stars who became Oscar-winning directors, Ron Howard stands alone. He got his start as a young actor on The Andy Griffith Show, and a half-century later narrated and helped to produce the cult-classic Arrested Development. But unlike many directors today, Howard has deliberately stayed away from making films in any particular niche. From romantic comedies like Splash to political dramas like Frost/Nixon, Howard believes in the old-fashioned power of movies.
