The Risks Women Face Just For Visiting Rikers

The Leonard Lopate Show | Jan 16, 2017

WNYC Urban Affairs Reporter Cindy Rodriguez and Raven Rakia, journalist at The Intercept, join us to discuss their joint investigation into the risks women face when visiting inmates at Rikers Island. According to their investigation, women have been complaining for years that they’re being invasively searched while trying to visit loved ones in jail. They report that women have filed lawsuits and complained to prosecutors and regulators, and have even called in to 311 to say that they’ve been violated by female guards.
