The Rise and Fall of Fake News

In the days after the election, "fake news," bolstered by real data, was seized upon by many as an explanation for Donald Trump's surprise victory. But before long, the phrase had spun out of control, becoming a general smear used by those on both sides of the aisle. When President Trump got in on the game, the phrase's fate seemed sealed. And now, two new studies seem to cast doubt on the entire narrative.

Brooke talks with Buzzfeed media editor Craig Silverman about the rocky past and uncertain future of "fake news," and how a legitimate concept became a political football.
