Richard Nelson & John Magaro On The Public Theater's 'Illyria'

The Leonard Lopate Show | Nov 28, 2017

Director/writer Richard Nelson joins us to discuss his new play, “Illyria,” which is running at the Public Theater through Dec. 10. He’s also joined by John Magaro who stars as Joseph Papp. The play is set in 1958, and follows artist Joe Papp and his friends as they struggle to put on free productions of Shakespeare in Central Park. As the summer progresses, a major building boom rapidly changes the city around them.

"Illyria" runs at the Public Theater (425 Lafayette St., at Astor Pl.) through Dec. 10.
