Reviving the Work, and Names, of Master Caricaturists

The Leonard Lopate Show | May 1, 2015

Illustrators and pop culture historians Drew Friedman and Stephen Kroninger discuss the work of twelve great, but nearly forgotten, caricaturists. The works of master caricaturists, among them Miguel Covarrubias, Jack Davis, Mort Drucker, David Levine, Ronald Searle, Edward Sorel, Robert Grossman and especially Al Hirschfeld, continue to be reprinted, celebrated, and discovered by new and younger audiences. But there are many once hugely popular celebrity caricaturists whose work has been largely forgotten and rarely warrants a mention in most books on the art of caricature. On May 6, Friedman and Kroninger present “12 Legendary Caricaturists You’ve, (probably), Never Heard Of” at the Society of Illustrators.
