Revel Hopes of Launching Tesla Taxis on NYC Streets Look Dim

WNYC News | Jun 7, 2021

The company Revel was hoping to launch a fleet of 50 Tesla taxis in Manhattan this month. The electric cabs would’ve complied with the city’s rule about no new taxis, unless they’re electric.

But now the city wants to review that loophole, and appears poised close it. The city says Revel is violating the spirit of the exemption, meant to convert existing cabs to electric, and that there are enough licensed taxis already.

When asked if Revel might sue, a spokesperson says, all options are on the table. A hearing on the loophole is scheduled for later this month.
