Retailers Cut Prices After Slow Shopping Season

Thursday, December 26, 2013

Piles of unsold clothing and electronics means today’s after-Christmas sale will be bigger than ever.

Some retailers didn’t even wait until after the holiday. Old Navy kicked off it’s “After Holiday Sale” over the weekend.

And while some people may be looking to return gifts instead of buy new ones, Amazon.com is reporting that many packages did not arrive in time for Christmas due to overwhelming online orders.  UPS has been forced to rent U-Haul trucks and hire extra workers to finish the job.

Bruce Gellerman, reporter for Here & Now Contributing Station WBUR, joins Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson to discuss the sales at a Cambridge Mall.
