A Week of Bad News for Women

It hasn't exactly been an uplifting week of news for women.

Less access to birth control, striking allegations that one of Hollywood's most liberal film producers repeatedly sexually harassed employees, and the Justice Department's decision to rollback protections for transgender people.

The list goes on. In a stunning display of hypocrisy, pro-life Congressman Tim Murphy was found to have pressured his mistress to get an abortion. That scandal led to writer Jennifer Weiner describing Murphy as "pro-life in the streets, pro-choice in the sheets."

Despite the morale-slashing week—which some Americans might consider to be the new normal under the Trump administration—some commentators say the onslaught should serve as a rallying cry.

"If we can talk about the experience of being a woman in the world today, and the way the often odorless gas of sexism affects us and holds us back, I think that will lead to a bigger paradigm shift in our cultural conversation," said Teen Vogue Columnist Lauren Duca.
