Rats of New York

The Leonard Lopate Show | Oct 5, 2016

People have been trying to get rid of rats in cities for decades. Despite all of our technological and scientific achievements, our cities are still plagued by millions of rats. It turns out, cities are the perfect habitats for these furry little creatures. Writer Jordan Kisner profiles the latest companies on the vanguard of rat control in a recent article for The Guardian called, “Man v rat: could the long war soon be over?.” Jason Munshi-South, Associate Professor, Department of Biological Sciences at Fordham University, also joins the conversation. He has studied New York rats for years, in order to understand the behavioral, ecological and evolutionary impact of wild urban rats.
