With all the news coming out of The Philippines in recent months, a quiet story has been brewing that affects millions of women: The Philippines may run completely out of contraceptives as soon as 2018.

In 2015, the nation's Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order on the full execution of The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Law, which effectively halted registrations for birth control. The ruling came in response to a push by religious groups and activists who made a link between contraception and abortion.

As part of our partnership with News Deeply, The Takeaway speaks with Ana P. Santos, a journalist based in Manila covering reproductive rights. Santos says the nation's instability and politicized battle over access to reproduction is putting women's health at risk, but, she adds, not nearly enough people are paying attention.
