How Homer Changed A Father & Son

The Leonard Lopate Show | Sep 12, 2017

Award-winning memoirist and critic Daniel Mendelsohn joins us to discuss his new book An Odyssey: A Father, a Son, and an Epic. When Daniel’s father, 81-year-old Jay Mendelsohn, decided to enroll in the undergraduate Odyssey seminar that he teaches at Bard College, it changed their relationship. The experience of reading Homer’s epic together revealed hidden secrets that allowed Daniel to understand his difficult father in new ways.

Daniel Mendelsohn will appear for a talk, Q&A and book signing on Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Barnes & Noble (2289 Broadway at 82nd St.).

Note: Jonathan Capehart guest-hosted this segment of "The Leonard Lopate Show."
