Cynthia E. Smith, curator of Socially Responsible Design at Cooper Hewitt, spent two years in search of more inclusive and sustainable communities, traveling to "shrinking post-industrial cities, sprawling metro regions, struggling rural towns, areas affected by natural and manmade disasters and places of persistent poverty." She discusses “By the People: Designing a Better America,” an exhibition of 60 collaborative designs from throughout the United States, along with Nadine Maleh, Executive Director of the Institute for Public Architecture and Senior Advisor to Community Solutions, and Christine Gaspar from the Center for Urban Pedagogy.

"By the People" runs through February 26th at the Cooper Hewitt Museum (2 East 91st St.). For tickets and more information, visit their website
