Patti Smith, Eric Hoegemeyer, Jesse Paris Smith

On Wednesday, April 23, Spinning On Air presents a special event in the Greene Space, "Mixing Memory and Desire: An Evening of Music, Poetry, Sound, and Remembrance," with Jesse Paris Smith, Eric Hoegemeyer, and Patti Smith. Songwriter, singer, memoirist Patti Smith is a passionate poet, and passionate about poetry. Jesse Paris Smith (Patti's daughter) and Eric Hoegemeyer have a musical project they call Tree Laboratory, which blends electronics, piano, and mallet instruments made of glass and stone. All three musicians will be collaborating on April 23 in honor of Poetry Month.

The event is sold out, but will be broadcast on Spinning On Air April 27. In this program David Garland presents some highlights of past work by Patti Smith and Tree Laboratory, to give some idea of what their Greene Space performance might be like. Also featured in this hour is "The Forester," an extended piece by Norwegian singer and composer Susanna with Ensemble neoN.

Next to the very old days of 'New Sounds' your show now is the only one which offers a worthwhile musical experience. Last night's installment however, in which you promote the Tree Laboratory et al was very sad for me since they completely rip off Schumann's 'Variations on a theme of Beethoven' and they get away with it.
