Alison Gopnik, professor of psychology and an affiliate professor of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley, and the author of The Gardener and the Carpenter: What the New Science of Child Development Tells Us About the Relationship Between Parents and Children (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2016), and the way in which we need to change parenting to keep up with the times.

"The model that lots of people have is to shape kids to come out a certain way," said Gopnik. "The better way is to think about the way you create an ecosystem, that's variable and does better on dealing with change."
