The 89th Academy Awards are just days away. Though there is a sea of strong contenders, Takeaway Culture Reporter Melissa Locker argues that a musical, specifically "La La Land," which is nominated for 11 Oscars, is bound to win Best Original Score.
However, the film, which stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, is going up against a number of very strong contenders with a variety of eclectic backgrounds. Two composers are nominated for the first time, and one composer — Randy Newman's cousin Thomas Newman — has received 14 nods in this category, but still hasn't won one.
