Scott Anderson, a contributor to The New York Times Magazine, spent 18 months reporting in the Middle East and profiled six individuals for a special issue of the magazine, devoted to explaining the origins of the Arab Spring. The entire issue is comprised of Anderson's story with photos by Paolo Pellegrin. His reporting suggests that the 2003 invasion of Iraq by the U.S. set the wheels in motion for the Arab Spring. He provides historical context from the 1970s to present day.
