NYPD to Release More Crime Data

WNYC News | Jan 4, 2016

Starting next month, New York City police won't be the only ones who can track crime trends in specific neighborhoods.

The NYPD is rolling out what Commissioner William Bratton is calling CompStat 2. CompStat is the system the NYPD revolutionized in the mid-1990s — using data to spot crime trends.

Come February, the department will unveil a website giving the public access to some of that data. The site will allow users to map crime data block by block, look for trends such as time of day, and create charts.
