NYC Launches Expanded Summer School Program

WNYC News | Jul 6, 2021

The regular school year ended just over a week ago, but students are already streaming back into schools for the city's new summer program, Summer Rising.

For the first time, the program seeks to accommodate all interested students in kindergarten through 12th grade. It offers a mix of academics and activities to help kids catch up from the pandemic and get ready to return to regular school in the fall.

Officials said more than 200,000 kids signed up and families can still enroll. But principals said changing guidance from the city left them scrambling to hire enough staff and accommodate all the students.
