Tough Commute after Minor Train Derailment at Penn Station
New Jersey Transit has limped back into service following a train derailment at New York's Penn Station Monday morning.Â
Evening commuters should expect delays of about 30 minutes on trains going in and out of Penn Station. Likewise, LIRR riders should see cancellations and delays for trains departing the station between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Midtown Direct trains have been diverted to Hoboken Terminal.Â
Officials said the NJ Transit train carrying about 1,200 passengers slipped off the rails as it approached the platform. According to the FDNY, five people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Â
Monday's incident comes less than two weeks after another minor derailment at Penn Station. On March 24, an Amtrak train partially derailed as it pulled out of the station and scraped the side of an arriving NJ Transit train. Authorities are still investigating that incident.Â
