Nigeria's Paradox: Africa's Highest GDP and Deadliest Terrorists

The Brian Lehrer Show | Jan 16, 2015

It's hard to know exactly what the death toll is from recent Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria. Some reports claim that as many as 2,000 people were killed in the Nigerian towns of Baga and Doron Baga on January 3, but the Nigerian government says the number is closer to 150. New satellite images released yesterday by Amnesty International show thousands of damaged or destroyed buildings in the area near Lake Chad.

Aryn Baker, Africa bureau chief for TIME, discusses Boko Haram's prolonged reign of terror in Nigeria and what it means for the country, which boasts Africa's largest economy, and the continent as a whole.
