#3392: New York Indie Classical
Sample music from many "indie classical" musicians and composers on this New Sounds, from people like Ted Hearne, Missy Mazzoli, and Christopher Cerrone, to name a few. Listen to Cerrone's spacious piano work, "Hoyt-Schermerhorn," as performed by pianist/composer Timo Andres. Then there's a piece from Andy Akiho, who has composed a number of works featuring steel drums.
Also, listen to a piece by Ted Hearne, best known perhaps for his "Katrina Ballads," where he made musical settings of the text spoken by various officials responding to the tragedy, things like "Brownie, you're Doing a Heckuva Job." Plus, music by David T. Little, based on shape-note singing performed by the Brooklyn Philharmonic, recorded at the 2011 New Sounds Live concert at the World Financial Center. There's also music by Missy Mazzoli (of Victoire) as performed by David T. Little's band, Newspeak, and more.
