#3710: New Releases, March 2015
It's that time - the end of the month where John Schaefer hand-picks only the finest of the new music that has crossed his desk this past March 2015. Schaefer has carefully sorted through the stacks of new CDs, Soundcloud files, and the highly anticipated digital submissions which have come across his desk and into his inbox over the past month to present some of the finest new releases. He'll skim off the cream. He'll pick the lentils from the ashes. You get it.
For this New Sounds, hear new music by Ajoyo, which is a blend of Cameroonian dance rhythms with jazz feels and some wonderful Afrobeaty moments. Also, hear new music from Ibeyi, twin sisters whose music has elements of Yoruba culture and fuses their vocals, jazz, samples, and traditional instruments. Then, listen to music from singer, lute player and founder of Orchestre national de Barbès, Aziz Sahmaoui, where Maghreb rock, jazz and gnawa music come together in a danceable ecstatic trance groove. Plus, the latest from singer Angelique Kidjo, with an orchestra, the French multi-instrumentalist Colleen (aka Cécile Schott), and more.
