#3723: New Music from Ireland, Part 7

From

For the final installment of our New Music from Ireland series, John Schaefer talks with two Cork-based composers: performer and improviser John Godfrey and improviser, educator and curator Karen Power. Listen to their works, featuring the Quiet Music Ensemble, and Power’s electro-acoustic found-sound compositions.

Godfrey is no stranger to New Sounds, as he’s been featured on the show back with the band Icebreaker (which he co-founded), along with the Crash Ensemble (also a founding member), and now he’s founded the Quiet Music Ensemble, dedicated to experimental and improvised music. Power’s work is rooted in both acoustic instruments and the sounds of everyday environments, like field recordings; her compositions that blur the distinction between what most of us call ‘music’ and all other sound. Plus, hear music from the Quiet Music Ensemble’s recent release, "The Mysteries Beyond Matter," and more.
