For the First Time in 42 Years, a New Music Director at The Met

WNYC News | Dec 3, 2018

Giuseppe Verdi’s "La Traviata" returns to The Metropolitan Opera Tuesday night, but this performance will be different: For the first time in 42 years, a new Music Director takes up the baton. Canadian conductor and pianist Yannick Nézet-Séguin (who's also the Music Director of the Philadelphia Orchestra) brings with him an understanding of the Met's legacy. He also has a wide ranging taste in music, a desire to spearhead new compositions and a hope to bring diverse audiences to the opera.
