Around 50 million Americans have allergies to pollen, drugs, food or other things. Yet despite the fact that allergies are so common, there have been very few advances in treatments in recent years.

But scientists are now getting closer to understanding the root causes of allergies, and are working on new methods for treating them.

Here & Now‘s Robin Young talks with Meghana Keshavan (@megkesh), who covers biotech for the health and medicine publication STAT, about some of the more promising experimental treatments in the pipeline.
