Neil deGrasse Tyson believes that everyone of us has a geek underbelly, and his goal for decades has been to try to coax it out through his writings, speeches, and radio and TV shows.

But rather than focus the third season of his show "StarTalk" on subjects traditionally thought to be in the realm of science, Tyson decided to flip the script, focusing on pop culture, and then getting into the science of it. It features guests ranging from Whoopi Goldberg to US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter.

The third season of "StarTalk" premieres on September 19th on National Geographic Channel, and coincides with the release date of a companion book, "STARTALK: Everything You Ever Need to Know About Space Travel, Sci-Fi, the Human Race, the Universe, and Beyond," out this week.
