In the coming days, the first offshore wind farm in the United States will begin commercial operation.

The Block Island Wind Farm, off the coast of Rhode Island, is modest — just five turbines that at capacity will produce enough electricity to power about 17,000 homes. But advocates say it’s the first step in a national strategy to harvest offshore wind, and create a new industry with thousands of jobs.

Bruce Gellerman (@AudioBruce) from Here & Now contributor WBUR got a tour of Block Island Wind, and has this story.
