About Elmer Davis: Progress Of War

World War II era 'weekly war review' delivered by the Director of the Office of War Information in 1943. It includes musical numbers, tactical information, and ways in which the public can aid in the war effort.

OWI Director Elmer Davis's reports to Americans at home and abroad aim to maintain support among Americans in war efforts. Many reports focus on events in Tunisia and explanations of ground strategy, giving the listener an interesting perspective on how the U.S.  government wanted to report on the war.

Davis was appointed to head the Office of War Information by President Roosevelt on June 13, 1942. He had been a well-known writer and radio commentator and was tasked with being the chief informant to the nation and the world on the U.S. war effort.
