Manhole Covers Go 'Boom'

The Brian Lehrer Show | Mar 9, 2015

Exploding manhole covers is pretty common in the city in the winter -- in fact, in the first week of February, there were hundreds of explosions. Francisco de Leon, associate professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, and Michael Clendenin, the director of media relations at Con Edison, discuss the recent epidemic of manhole explosions throughout the city, including why the number spikes in the winter and how to stay safe as you walk by those ubiquitous manhole covers.
