At Garden State Plaza in Paramus last night, Richard Shoop, 20, of Teaneck, walked through the halls firing a weapon into the air, eventually shooting and killing himself in the early morning after a long police standoff. Richard Hake of the WNYC newsroom updates the latest, and we discuss what it says about safety, gun culture, and more.

@RUCB_Alum He stole it from his brother and modified it. Thank God no one was hurt/killed, but, if there were people shot/killed, the NRA would remain voluntarily deaf, dumb and blind to the idea of responsible gun ownership.

Where did he get the gun? Was it a legally obtained and owned weapon? Was it his own gun? Some reports describe it as an AK-47? Was it?
