Lore Segal's Novel Half the Kingdom

Monday, October 07, 2013

Lore Segal discusses her new novel, Half the Kingdom. It’s a surprisingly lighthearted look at a serious subject. At Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, doctors have noticed a marked uptick in Alzheimer's patients. People who seemed perfectly lucid just a day earlier suddenly show signs of advanced dementia. Is it just normal aging, or an epidemic? Is it a coincidence, or a secret terrorist plot?

Having tried to get my hospital records to the doctors who needed to see them before I could even get a follow-up app't., I can say that the bureaucracies are indeed Kafkaesque.

And yes, many expressions from Shakespeare have become household words, & most of us don't realize they're from Shakespeare. That even includes "household word"!
