In Lincoln’s Generals’ Wives: Four Women Who Influenced the Civil War for Better and for Worse, Candice Shy Hooper examines the early lives of Jesse Fremont, Nelly McClellan, Ellen Sherman, and Julia Grant and draws from diaries, letters and other primary sources to reveal how they affected the outcome of the Civil War.Â
